The Women-Friendly Health Centers Program
The Women-Friendly Health Centers Program is a pioneering initiative led by the National Woman Healthcare Center, in partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Health and the Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC), and with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The program aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to women at primary health care centers, ensuring a comprehensive response to women's needs across all life stages—from adolescence to menopause—within a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
Program Objectives:
Improve access to safe and comprehensive health services for women
Support mental and psychosocial health, especially for women survivors of gender-based violence
Raise awareness around reproductive and sexual health issues
Provide regular screenings and promote early detection of breast and cervical cancers
Empower health centers to apply international standards focused on women as central beneficiaries
Scope of Work:
The program is implemented in health centers affiliated with various sectors, including: Ministry of Health, Royal Medical Services, Institute for Family Health, UNRWA, Private sector. It covers multiple governorates across the Kingdom, with a special focus on rural and remote areas.
What Sets These Centers Apart?
Application of 52 women-friendly healthcare standards, including 32 essential standards covering management, human resources, service delivery, and the physical environment
Delivery of integrated services including primary healthcare, reproductive care, mental health support, health education, and legal/social support
Availability of procedural manuals tailored for adolescent care, antenatal and postnatal services, and mental health support
Achievements:
Training of over 27 healthcare providers, and development of a comprehensive national guidance manual
Official recognition of 8 health centers as women-friendly in the first phase of the program (2023)
Formation of a national steering committee with representatives from various sectors and both local and international partners
Preparation of 20 additional centers in the second phase (2024–2025) for upcoming accreditation
