National Woman Healthcare Center – Tafilah Governorate

About the Center

The idea of establishing the National Woman Healthcare Center emerged over the past decade in response to the ongoing challenges facing women’s health services—despite Jordan’s progress in basic healthcare and reproductive health. These challenges are particularly evident in areas far from the capital, especially in the southern governorates.

The initiative was inspired by the vision of Her Royal Highness Princess Aisha Bint Al Hussein, and initially began as a project to enhance healthcare services for women serving in the Jordanian Armed Forces. Over time, this vision expanded to encompass all Jordanian women across the Kingdom, through the Women’s Health Improvement Project in Southern Jordan, with support from various official bodies including the Ministry of Health, the Royal Medical Services Directorate, the Ministry of Planning, Greater Amman Municipality, as well as public and private sector institutions and international organizations.

In 2011, the National Woman Healthcare Center Bylaw No. (4) of 2011 was issued under Article (120) of the Jordanian Constitution and Paragraph (D) of Article (4) of the Public Health Law No. (47) of 2008. The bylaw stipulates the establishment of women’s health care centers in various governorates of the Kingdom, all administratively and financially linked to the National Center.

Under a cooperation agreement signed under the patronage of Princess Aisha Bint Al Hussein, the Women's Health Care Center in Tafilah Governorate was launched. The center began receiving patients on June 2, 2012, becoming the first of its kind outside the capital, Amman, to provide integrated, high-quality health services dedicated to women’s health.
